Obituary of Paulina Ambizas

Please share a memory of Paulina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Paulina Ambizas, turned 102 this past December, 2025. She passed away this past Thursday, January 8, 2026 surrounded by her loving Niece Pearl and Pearl's husband Bill, as well as two family cats Leo and George. Born in Bogota, Colombia, Paulina emigrated to the US following her older sister Lucia Charles to New York City in the early 1950s, where she lived for the rest of her life. She became a US citizen, married, divorced and never had children but she was a loving, fantastic, fun, and generous aunt who deserved the best in this world. She ultimately lived the American Dream, bought a home with her sisters, and eventually retired from Newsweek Magazine where she worked in the Statistics Dept. Her niece brought her five years ago to her home in Merrick, NY in lieu of a nursing facility. Paulina had a terrific outlook and sense of humor, loved to go to the gym, loved to drive, was a great swimmer and enjoyed playing Dominos. In her later years she became a fantastic artist. At her advanced age she loved watching soccer, wrestling and Wheel of Fortune and watching Sunday Mass on TV. She became a part of the fiber of our lives in our home for the last five years. She was like a mother and a sister to Pearl and Bill. She was also grandmotherly to Neill and Ashley. Neill's wife Chrissy and Ashley's fiancé Jack loved her greatly as well.
