Obituary of Loretta M. Dunn

Loretta M. Dunn, 91, of North Merrick, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at St Francis Hospital in Roslyn, NY.

Loretta was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, participating in the Rosary Society and acting as lector during masses for 25 years. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Odile Sheridan, and grew up in Ozone Park, NY.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Raymond Sheridan, Marion Sheridan, and Odile Proctor, as well as her son Robert Dunn.

After marriage, she moved with her family to N. Merrick NY in 1962. She was active in her church and community and enjoyed coaching CYO sports and her role as Den Mother in Boy Scouts of America. She was a recipient of "Mother of the Year" award as voted by Merrick Life.

Loretta would tell you her biggest accomplishment was raising her seven children primarily on her own. She was much loved by all who knew her for her sweet demeanor, sense of humor, and love of family. While working full-time, she returned to school and received her Associates in Science, majoring in Nursing at SUNY Farmingdale in 1979. She worked for many years at Nassau County Medical Center as an RN in the burn unit. She later worked at MLMIC in East Meadow, using her medical knowledge to evaluate litigated cases. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her many friends.

She is survived by her sons Lawrence (Suzanne), James (Carolyn), William (Karin), Thomas (Patricia), daughters Loretta, and Mary Kelly (Tim). Also her many grandchildren: Ryan, Elizabeth, Bridget, Sarah, Kevin, Kaitlyn, Samantha, Brian, Brianna, Jillian, Erin, Grace, Michael, Ryan, and Brandon. She was adored by her great-grandchildren Journey, Luke, Joelle, Carter, Harper, Oliver and Connor, as well her extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
